FIELD: forestry engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to utilization of wood waste, straw, plant stems, corn ear, peelings, etc. Biomass is charged into converter and subjected to pyrolysis at temperature 659 to 950 C in reduction gas medium, after which water steam preheated to 105-140 C is fed into converter at weight ratio to biomass from 0.1: 1 to 0.25: 1. Resulting solid product (charcoal) is finally recovered. Reduction gas is prepared by combustion of hydrocarbon fuel using air consumption coefficient α = 0.85-1.1.
