FIELD: alloys. SUBSTANCE: zinc-base alloy for protective cover applying has components taken in the following ratio, wt.- %: aluminum, 3.5-4.5; lead, 0.5-1.5; iron, 0.02-0.10 and zinc, the balance. Structure of alloy consists of aluminum solid solution in zinc with inclusion of the phase (Al3FeZn5) of the size 0.1 mm, not above. Method of zinc-base alloy making involves ferrous zinc melting under layer of chloride flux with addition of aluminum taken in the parent molar ratio to iron content in ferrous zinc = (4.5-5.5): 1. Firstly, process is carried out at 600-620 C with aluminum loading 70-75% of necessary amount and the following decrease of temperature by 70-80 C and loading the remainder aluminum followed by alloy casting to obtain pigs at 450-460 C. EFFECT: enhanced quality of covers, decreased consumptions in alloy making. 2 cl, 1 tbl, 1 ex
