SUBSTANCE: for charging lead-acid cell or battery through converter connected to ac supply mains using technique based on alternation of charge and discharge current pulses, repetition rate of charge current pulses is chosen to equal one of f/n values, where f is ac supply frequency; n is division ratio (n = 1,2,3,...), and length of these pulses to be lower than or equal to one fourth of oscillation period in ac mains at discharge current pulse length ddis= n/f-dch. In addition, current through discharge pulse is chosen within the range of Idis= 0,1...0,4 I0, where I0 is RMS value of dc charge current depending on amplitude of charge current pulse and on pulse duty factor.
