FIELD: internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of determining mass consumption of air in internal combustion engines, particularly, for determining cyclic mass charging of working chamber with air. It can be used in control systems of internal combustion engines. According to proposed method a set of gas-dynamic elements, from which gas air duct of internal combustion engine consists, is found, and then a simulator of gas dynamic condition of gas-dynamic duct of particular internal combustion engine is assembled in which engine is considered as a system of intercoupled gas-dynamic elements each of which has specific gas-dynamic characteristics obtained at bench tests or by calculation, and model of internal combustion engine, thus obtained, is used in control system of internal combustion engine. EFFECT: reduced toxicity of exhaust gases owing to improved accuracy of determination of cyclic air charging of engine working chamber with provision of possibility of more accurate maintenance of excess air coefficient of fuel-air mixture corresponding to most efficient operation of catalyst converter. 3 cl, 5 dwg
