FIELD: thermal softening of water; applicable in treatment of natural waters, particularly, for preparation of potable water. SUBSTANCE: method is realized with use of alkali formed in intensive boiling of water due to removal with water steam of carbon dioxide and oxygen. Necessity of preservation of hardness salts crystallizing at high pH is ensured by introduction into water of reagent - fixator, for instance, mixture of ions of iron and aluminum, or titanium, or silicon dioxide. Ions are produced in dissolving of plates of packing unit with aggressive carbonic acid and oxygen removed from water during its boiling. Presence in packing unit or in separate enrichment unit of plates from gold, silver and copper allows enrichment of water with these microelements.
