FIELD: mechanical engineering; automotive industry. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of reduction of toxicity of exhaust gases of internal combustion engines. Proposed catalyst converter has housing made in form of hollow container with inlet and outlet branch pipes. Housing accommodates catalyst carrier made of two spiral corrugated tapes coated with catalyst, axial lines of mated valleys and tops of corrugations of preceding and following layers being arranged at angle of 0 to 60 deg. Height of preceding carrier relative to following carrier is within 1:1 to 1:2. equalizing mixing chambers are formed between catalyst carriers. Summary volume of mixing chambers is 0/01 to 0/04 of inner volume of housing. Axes of mated valleys and tops of corrugation of first carrier are parallel to axis of converter and step of wave of corrugation is either constant or variable. Angle of intersection of corrugations of preceding and following layers of carriers changes continuously or in steps.
