FIELD: mineral fibers. SUBSTANCE: invention, in particular, relates to manufacturing mineral fibers used for heat-insulation of pipelines, warming of constructional coverings, and for sound insulation. Slag smelt is fed into smelting furnace, into which corrective ingredient, in particular mellitite and silica or carbonatite and silica, or broken glass, is added to assure ingredient-to-slag smelt weight ratio (0.27-1.43):1 and following analysis of corrected slag melt, wt.%: SiO2, 48.82-57.54; Al2O3, 3.95-6.28; iron oxides (on conversion to FeO), 14.04-20.90; MgO, 6.06-12.55; CaO, 5.97-15.93; Na2O, 0.44-5.99; K2O, 0.31-0.71; P2O5, 0.05-1.03; S, 0.39-0.86; while weight ratio of feldspars to pyroxenes in corrected melt, on converting its analysis to standardized mineral analysis, must be equal to (0.18-0.48): 1 and monoclinic systems of pyroxenes must prevail over orthorhombic ones. Cooking of melt is effected at 1130-1430 C and fiber is manufactured at 1200-1260 C. EFFECT: increased yield of conditioned product due to reduced non-fibrous inclusions by 20% in average and lack of crystals therein, and reduced power consumption of process to lowered cooking temperature and fiber manufacture stages and reduced maximum furnace temperature by 370 C. 5 cl, 4 tbl, 11 ex
