FIELD: splicing telecommunication cables or fiber-optic cables, or tube jointing. SUBSTANCE: shell has first and second parts each incorporating wall with peripheral flange protruding therefrom, clamping member in the form of snap ring mounted around flanges of first and second parts for clamping flanges together, and sealing member. At least part of clamping member is made in the form of one resilient part free to bend open for fitting clamping member around flanges of first and second parts. Wall section in one of parts overlaps that of other part; with walls clamped together and shell assembled clamping member is fully arranged and compressed between overlapping sections of walls of first and second parts. Clamping member has at least two projections on their inner surfaces which are spaced apart to dispose flanges of first and second parts between them and to ensure clamping of parts and restricting their axial displacement towards each other. Method for clamping first and second parts of shell together involves sequential installation of clamping member around flanges. EFFECT: reduced weight and cost, enhanced reliability. 13 cl, 4 dwg
