FIELD: catalysts for petrochemical processes. SUBSTANCE: invention provides modified zeolite NU-86 containing silicon and at least one T element selected from aluminum, iron, gallium, and boron. T element is eliminated from the framework of initial crude synthetic zeolite NU-86. Total Si/T ratio is higher than approximately 20. Elimination of T from zeolite framework (or lattice) is accomplished by means of at least one heat treatment conducted if necessary in presence of water steam followed by at least one acid etching in at least one mineral or organic acid solution or, more preferably, direct acid etching. Catalyst containing such zeolite being totally or partially in acid form is suitable for use in conversion of hydrocarbons, more particularly in the C2-C8-olefin oligomerization process. EFFECT: increased catalytic activity, stability and selectivity of catalyst. 14 cl, 10 tbl, 15 ex
