FIELD: metallurgy, particularly, heating of steel ingots containing chromium and nickel in continuous furnaces. SUBSTANCE: mixture of coke, natural and blast-furnace gases with total calorific value of 4300-5100 kcal/cu. m is used for heating of steel ingots containing total amount of chromium and nickel within 0.02-1.0 mas.% with mixture of coke, natural and blast-furnace gases in volume ratio of components in mixture of 1-7, 48.1-56.9, and 38.1-50.9, respectively, and ingots with content of nickel and chromium within 1.02-10.0 mas. % are heated with use of gas mixture with volume ratio of components within 7.01-40.0, 43.3-45.2, and 16.7-46.8, respectively. EFFECT: reduced furnace loss of metal in heating, decreased amount of defects of type of rolled-in scale or rolling skin on strip after hot rolling of ingot. 2 tbl, 1 ex
