FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves smelting cast iron in blast furnace; periodically discharging cast iron and slug from furnace; feeding into discharged slag improving admixtures in the form of iron-containing metallurgical wastes, with following processing of slag. Admixtures are iron-containing metallurgical wastes with moisture content of 0.01- 10.0%, fraction of 0.08-50.0 mm and consumption rate of 5.0-14.9 kg/t of slag. Iron-containing wastes include dried oxygen-converter production sludge with Fe2O3 content of 40-80 wt%, or dried blast furnace wastes with Fe2O3 content of 30-70 wt%, or blast furnace dust with Fe2O3 content of 40-50 wt%, or aspiration burden dust and blast furnace foundry dust with Fe2O3 content of 40-55 wt%, or dried sludge and slag of ferrous alloys production with Fe2O3 content of 30-60 wt% and manganese oxide content of 10-30 wt%, or scale from continuous steel casting machine and from continuously cast ingot stores, having Fe2O3 content of 40-90 wt%, mixture of converter sludge and ferromagnetic slag used in the ratio of 9/1-3/2. Iron-containing wastes are fed onto foundry slag trough or into slag melt flow during discharge thereof into slag pot or into empty slag pot before filling it with slag.
