FIELD: chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of synthesis of chloroform by hydrogenation of carbon tetrachloride with n-paraffins C10-C15 or their mixtures in a liquid phase at temperatures 150-180 C and contact time for 1-8 h. The complex of copper chloride with quaternary ammonium salt chlorides of the general formula (R)3(R1)NCl or (R)2(R1)2NCl where R is C1-C18-alkyl; R1 is C1-C18-alkyl or benzyl or salt of the formula (R)-CH[N(R1)3]CH[N(R1)3](R2)Cl2 where R2 is H or a lower alkyl and R, R1 have values indicated above is used as a catalyst being the mole ratio of quaternary ammonium salt to copper = (1-10) : 1. Method involves the use of the effective soluble catalyst. EFFECT: simplified technology, enhanced output of process. 1 tbl
