FIELD: organochlorine syntheses, more specifically preparation of chloroform and hydrocarbon chlorinated into side chain. SUBSTANCE: is reacted with aromatic hydrocarbon in liquid phase at elevated temperature (160-190 C) for 8-20 hours in the presence of copper (I) chloride complexes with tertiary amine of formula: R3N wherein R is C2-C5-alkyl or copper sulfide of formula: wherein R′ = C1-C9-alkyl, copper chloride to amine or sulfide molar ratio being 1:1-5. In the preferred process embodiment said complex is applied onto mineral carrier in amount wherein copper chloride to carrier weight ratio is 1:4-100. The claimed process for simultaneously preparing chloroform and aromatic hydrocarbons chlorinated into side chain makes it possible to reduce process duration by 3-5 times, increase process selectivity up to 94-100% and reduce process temperature to 160-190 C.
