FIELD: electroplating. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrolytically applying chromium coatings from electrolytes based on six-valent chromium compound and may find use in corrosion and wear protection of articles. In particular, proposed electrolyte contains 150-250 g/l of chromic anhydride and 750-850 g/l of dimethylsulfoxide. EFFECT: increased current-dependent yield of chromium when depositing coatings with improved physico-mechanical characteristics, reduced power, metal, and water consumption, and improved environment safety. 1 tbl
