FIELD: machine engineering, particularly process for cathode treatment of metallic part surface before laser quenching. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of adding to electrolyte containing potassium permanganate compounds of amphoteric metals until electrolyte becomes saturated solution of amphoteric metals and potassium permanganate; realizing treatment process in neutral or weakly alkaline medium at 20 C; setting electric current density on cathode in range 30-50 A/sq.dm. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of laser quenching process, improved manufacturability. 2 dwg, 2 tbl
