FIELD: biotechnology, biochemistry, enzymes. SUBSTANCE: nitrilases show the enhanced specific activity at exposing reaction medium where they are used and they are able to convert low concentrations of acrylonitrile and convert acrylonitrile-containing polymer to a nontoxic substance. Nitrilases show a value Km for acrylonitrile from 3.8 mcM to 500 mcM at pH 7.0 and a value Ki for ammonium acrylate at least 100 mcM at pH 7.0 and a value of ratio of indicated value Ki to indicated value Km at least 200. Nitrilases are obtained by culturing the strain Rhodococcus rhodochrous NCIMB 40757 or NCIMB 40833. Invention can be used in enzymatic methods of conversion of acrylonitrile to ammonium acrylate in an aqueous or vaporous phase and for determination of low levels of nitrile content in an aqueous and vaporous phase.
