MODIFIED UNSATURATED ELASTOMERS' PRODUCTION PROCESS Russian patent published in 2002 - IPC

FIELD: polymer production. SUBSTANCE: functionalized unsaturated elastomers are prepared by treating aqueous elastomer emulsions with gas mixture containing ozone in amounts 0.3 to 5.9 wt.% with regard to elastomer, after which emulsions are stabilized and elastomer is isolated therefrom. Process is distinguished by that elastomer ozonation process is conducted with simultaneous introduction, into aqueous elastomer emulsion, of ozone and 0.5-3.0% aqueous potassium or sodium alkali solution in amounts corresponding to 0.5-1.0 mole alkali per 1 mole of absorbed ozone, maintaining pH of reaction milieu 8.0-11.0 during the ozonation, and additional introduction, into aqueous emulsion of modified elastomer at the end of ozonation process, of a mixture of ferrous sulfate and organic or inorganic complexing compound (weight ratio 1:2 to 1:4) in amounts corresponding to 0.005-0.020 % of ferrous sulfate based on the weight of elastomer, and emulsion is aged for 1-3 h before modified elastomers is isolated. Emulsion and solution rubbers can be used for modification. EFFECT: preserved initial plastic and elastic properties of elastomers during ozonation process, reduced gelation of elastomers, and ensured aggregative stability of latex during ozonation. 2 tbl
