FIELD: fire-fighting equipment. SUBSTANCE: powder fire-extinguisher has casing, locking-starting head with siphon tube and fire- extinguishing powder charge. Siphon tube has diameter making 0.03-0.13 the casing inner diameter, thickness at least equal to 0.3 the thickness of casing wall. Siphon tube lower section is spaced from casing bottom by distance below 3.0 of siphon tube inner diameter. Volume of accumulating cavity is at least 10% of casing volume. Method involves mounting locking-starting apparatus with siphon tube; drawing in rubber sealing ring at torque moment of 1.5-4.0 kg/m; introducing fire-extinguishing powder via charging opening and creating working pressure in accumulating cavity of fire-extinguisher. Method and construction allow fire-suppressing capacity to be increased by optimal throwing time and amount of remaining fire-extinguishing powder charge to be reduced. Technical characteristics are increased by 10-15% due to reduced dimension and weight characteristics. Siphone tube resistance to longitudinal and transverse loads is increased. Also, locking-starting apparatus and casing junction is hermetically sealed to resist force acting upon it under cyclic loads during charging-discharge of fire-extinguisher.
