FIELD: surface cleaning and prevention of contamination on it, preferably, internal surfaces of hollow articles; applicable in cleaning of vessels used for transportation and storage, preferably, oil and oil products. SUBSTANCE: method includes preliminary application to vessel internal surface of protective layer, drying of said layer with subsequent removal of contaminations during cleaning. To produce protective layer, use is made of aqueous solution of ethanolamine and salt of alkali metal of polyacrylic acid with adhesion of produced layer to vessel surface of at least 20 kg/sq. cm.
