Packer seal drive is made in the form of chamber with working medium in such initial aggregative state in which it occupies minimal volume, and member transferring the working medium from initial aggregative state to some other state in which it occupies larger volume. Method of packer locking includes its lowering into well to required depth, increase of packer diametrical size and deformatrion of its seal in radial direction. Working medium of packer seal drive is transferred from initial aggregative state in which working medium occupies minimal volume to state in which it occupies larger volume. EFFECT: higher reliability of packer locking in well due to action of pressure of packer drive working medium onto relatively large area of packer cotact with well walls and also due to simplified packer design and technology of its setting in well at any distance from its bottom hole. 8 cl, 5 dwg
