FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: proposed method of diagnosing condition of internal combustion engine includes measuring concentration of wear products oil in engine lubrication system and determining rate of iron getting into lubrication systems. Oil sample is taken from engine crankcase oil sump and total mass fraction of iron in oil and in oil filter is determined and, basing of these data, rate of iron getting into lubrication system is determined and then service rate is found by engine characteristics and preset wear rations of its parts, values of rates are compared and engine condition is evaluated by calculated coefficient. EFFECT: improved reliability and accuracy of diagnosing. 2 cl, 1 dwg
