FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves rolling slabs in working rolls of hot-rolling mill and regulating rolling rate by controlling time interval between time of discharge of previous slab from roll mill stand and set time of delivery of subsequent slab into roll mill stand; determining current value of temperature gradient in roll and selecting time interval so that maximal temperature gradient at the end of said time interval is equal to maximal allowable value equal to product of critical temperature gradient resulting in roll breakage and coefficient of safety determined from expression: c<Δint/Δroll, where Δint and Δroll are maximal temperature gradient values at the end of time interval and during rolling of slab. Optimization of time intervals allows capacity of hot-rolling mill to be increased during heating thereof after stoppage and upon transition to other assortment. EFFECT: increased efficiency and reduced probability of roll breakage. 1 dwg
