FIELD: production of powder cellulose for medical, pharmaceutical and foodprocessing industries; perfume manufacture. SUBSTANCE: proposed method consists in hydrolysis of wood cellulose at whiteness of 70 to 78% by mineral acid and its bleaching. After hydrolysis, powder cellulose is separated from destructive solution and is subjected to washing; after bleaching, additional acid treatment is performed; hydrolysis of cellulose is performed in aqueous solution of nitric or hydrochloric acid at temperature of 80 to 85 C continued for 1 to 1.5 h; bleaching of powder cellulose obtained in the course of hydrolysis is performed by means of hydrogen peroxide at concentration of 0.1% in bleaching bath at temperature of 70 C and pH = 10 continued for an hour. EFFECT: increased yield of finished product ; reduced consumption of hydrogen peroxide used for bleaching powder cellulose; high degree of whiteness; enhanced stability of whiteness; possibility of conducting the process at low temperature. 1 tbl
