FIELD: agricultural engineering. SUBSTANCE: apparatus has chamber, pair of fans positioned in upper part of chamber and equipped with drive and discharge branch pipes. Grain collector with auger is located in lower part of chamber. Air duct discharge openings symmetrically arranged above auger ends are communicated with suction nozzles. Chamber has narrowed part with guiding members for separating grains from straw. Grain discharge conveyor with pneumatic valve is positioned in lower part of chamber laterally thereof. Straw and chaff are drawn by air flow created by fans and thrown through discharge branch pipes. Method involves regulating fan rotational speed depending on apparatus advancement speed, with suction nozzle speed and fan rotational speed ratio per unit of time depending on rice moisture content being 1/50 - 1/100. EFFECT: reduced labor intensity and provision for maximal after-harvest picking up of rice grains. 3 cl, 1 dwg
