FIELD: inorganic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: substance for surface treatment of pigments comprises as aluminium source, wt.%: AlO(OH), 3-75; amorphous AlO(OH) + AI2O3, 3-50; γ-AI2O3, 3-85. Substance can comprise additionally one or some calcium compounds taken in the amount 0.05-3 wt.% of AI2O3 as measured for CaO and it can comprise also additionally one or some magnesium compounds taken in the amount 0.05-3 wt.% of AI2O3 as measured for MgO. Invention ensures to enhance chemical activity of substance for surface treatment of pigments, decrease abrasive properties of treated pigment and decrease its photochemical activity significantly, decrease covering power index, improved dispersing capacity in binding agent. Invention is designated for modification of pigments, mainly titanium dioxide, and lead crown, iron oxide pigments also and can be used in production of paint and varnish materials, plastics and other substances utilizing pigments.
