FIELD: primary wool processing. SUBSTANCE: method involves sequentially feeding continuous wool flow into aqueous detergent solution; processing wool in aqueous detergent solution during advancement of wool through process stations; withdrawing wool from aqueous detergent solution and feeding it in the form of layer to squeezing shafts, with squeezing line being arranged above the level of aqueous detergent solution; squeezing wool and separating contaminant particles and solution from wool fibers. Wool layer is supplied to input ends of squeezing shafts in intermitting portions along path close to side surface of upper squeezing shaft from top to bottom. Prior to squeezing operation, each portion of movable wool layer is additionally uniformly sprayed in single pass from the top along the entire width thereof. Washing solution has temperature 1-25 C above temperature of solution in washing bath, with excessive solution being prevented from free flowing toward squeezing shafts. Wool is squeezed at pressure of at least 2 MPa in wool and shaft contact zone. EFFECT: increased efficiency, simplified construction, improved cleaning quality and increased capacity of wool washing unit. 1 tbl
