FIELD: animal ecology control, in particular, detecting, counting and evaluation of animal population. SUBSTANCE: method involves simultaneously using infrared shooting, video shooting in wide vision band and high-resolution video shooting in narrow vision band; counting on the basis of results of simultaneous shootings thermal spots (of proposed animals with contrasting and masking color) on infrared prints and contrasting animals on video prints made in wide vision band; calculating difference of results obtained from infrared and video shootings and determining number of supposed animals with masking color; marking animals with contrasting and masking color detected in said way with different marks; identifying each marked animal by high-resolution video prints made in narrow vision band; determining number of coincidences and differences and calculating on the basis of this number population of animals. EFFECT: increased efficiency and provision for obtaining reliable data on animal population. 1 ex
