FIELD: metallurgy of light metals. SUBSTANCE: method involves supplying melt into preliminarily vacuumized chamber; dispersing melt in said chamber, with residual pressure in chamber being maintained within the range of 13.33-1,333 Pa; increasing surface of dispersed melt by 200-600 times as compared to immovable melt surface; creating vacuum in continuous mode at chamber volume and melt volume ratio of 2:(0.8-1.2). When magnesium chloride is used as raw material, chloride salts fusion is added into melt in an amount of up to 25 wt.% prior to creating vacuum in said chamber. Vacuumizer is positioned in thermostat and comprises built-in branch pipes for connection to vacuum line and supplying melt into vacuumizer, and hole for continuous discharge of melt. Melt supplying branch pipe is arranged higher than admissible melt level and is provided with melt fracturing head. Method and apparatus are used for preparing chlorine and magnesium bearing raw material in electrolytic production of magnesium. EFFECT: increased efficiency by improved decomposition rate of MgOHCl in chlorine and magnesium bearing raw material and continuous process. 3 cl, 1 dwg
