FIELD: nuclear power engineering; fuel element manufacture. SUBSTANCE: cans are turned about their axes four times, each time through 45 deg., at the same time X-raying can-to-plug welded joints, standard weld being also X-rayed; after each X-raying procedure film is shifted, images of four weld sections are obtained, light image of brightness and photometric density ranging between 1.5 and 2.5 optical units are compared with those of standard weld; if flaws are detected in welded joint, bundle of cans is doubled and X-raying repeated; in case flaws persist, entire lot of fuel elements is X-rayed and cans with defective welds are brought out of process. EFFECT: enhanced reliability of inspection; enlarged service life of fuel elements. 3 dwg
