FIELD: metallurgy, in particular, foundry. SUBSTANCE: the refractory extension piece of the gas cupola has high-alumina and grog refractory materials and carbon-containing material, which are positioned in layers; the carbon-containing material, for example, natural mineral schungite, - in the lower part of the hearth from its bottom to the level of the tunnels of the gas burners, and the refractory materials - on the mentioned layer of schungite up to the upper section of the hearth, the relation between schungite layer height h1 and refractory material layer height h2 is sustained within h1/h2= 0.6 to 0.8. The use of the refractory extension piece provides for production of pig iron with a high content of carbon with a high temperature. EFFECT: reduced cost of pig iron by 1.1 to 1.2 times due to the use of cheap Schungite. 3 dwg, 1 tbl
