FIELD: explosive disposal. SUBSTANCE: energy-bearing materials such as nitrocellulose, trinitrotoluene, RDX, and their combinations, optionally with military poison-gases such as mustard gas, lewisite, Tabun, sarin, soman, VX, and their combinations, are destroyed by bringing into reaction with solvated electrons, which are chiefly generated by dissolving active metals, such as sodium, in nitrogen base such as anhydrous liquid ammonia. Reactor system for destruction process comprises reaction vessel to load energy-bearing material, dissolution vessel containing nitrogen base to dissolve active metal, condenser to process gas escaping reaction vessel, settler to separate reaction products into liquid and solid fractions, dissolution unit to bring solid fraction into contact with water and produce liquid mixture, and liquid mixture oxidation apparatus.
