FIELD: treatment of material surfaces. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to device for and method of treatment of surfaces according to which article to be treated is moved through bath where it is subjected to chemical or galvanic treatment and/or electrophoresis machining. Said device has reservoir for dipping, conveyor with step racks, and machining members installed stationary between rack steps. Step rack is provided with brackets installed at distance from each other and lifting slides installed for vertical travel in slides installed for horizontal displacement. Reservoir for dipping accommodates lifting rack with projecting pins arranged in compliance with arrangement of rods and rod-to- rod distance in all hangers for material to be treated arranged in step rack. According to method of treatment of material surface, material is placed on horizontally movable lifting step rack and is moved through zone of treatment in form of reservoir between members. Material being passed through reservoir is additionally re-placed/shifted to make treated material accessible for treating means. EFFECT: improved quality of material treatment. 8 cl, 12 dwg
