FIELD: polymer materials. SUBSTANCE: process involves hydrolytic polymerization of caprolactam via preparation of prepolymerizate melt followed by dehydration of melt. Melting is performed at temperature by 1-15 C inferior to melting temperature of polycaproamide and this temperature is maintained until degree of conversion of caprolactam into prepolymer is close to equilibrium value. Dehydration is started when partial pressure of water vapor over the melt is within a range of 100-755 mm Hg and product is kept at the same temperature until required molecular weight is obtained. EFFECT: enabled regulation of molecular weight of strictly linear polycaproamide, increased yield pf polymer, and improved environmental condition. 1 tbl, 4 ex
