FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: proposed method is performed in multi- hearth furnace having two zones located one above other; each zone embraces several hearths. Iron ore is subjected to interaction with reductant in first zone of multi-hearth furnace at temperature of 800 to 1100 C; as a result, this ore is reduced to metallic iron and gases are cleaned from sulfur by desulfuring agents, after which iron reduced by direct method is removed from furnace and gases cleaned from sulfur are fed to second zone where they heat ore to temperature of 600 to 800 C. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency. 12 cl, 1 dwg
