SNOW REMOVING METHOD AND APPARATUS USED IN MEGALOPOLISES Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

FIELD: municipal management. SUBSTANCE: method involves removing and melting snow; disposing of contaminants; constructing nonflow-type reservoir connected through channels with city river; laying flow-type steel pipes along bottom of city river; directing river water of 4-6 C temperature through flow-type pipes in winter; providing snow collector above reservoir and dumping snow removed from streets; providing sedimentation of municipal contaminants contained in snow and released upon melting of snow and directing it into contaminants collector; opening shutters in lower part of snow collector and discharging thawing water free from contaminants through water discharge channel into river; cleaning contaminant collector from contaminants in summer; transporting contaminants to the country. Snow removing apparatus has concrete reservoir communicated with river through walls equipped with supply and discharge channels. Longitudinal steel pipes are laid between reservoir walls for providing permanent passage of river water from supply channel into discharge channel. Snow collector and vehicle ramp are positioned above reservoir and drive shutters are positioned in lower part of reservoir in the vicinity of ramp supporting wall and adapted for discharging of thawing water cleaned from contaminants by sedimentation process into river through discharge channel. Vehicles transport contaminants extracted from thawing water to the country. Method and apparatus are used for removing snow from high-density traffic streets in middle latitude megalopolises.
