METHOD OF PREPARING BUCKWHEAT SEEDS FOR SHELLING Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

FIELD: food-concentrates and groats industry. SUBSTANCE: method involves preparing buckwheat seeds for shelling, that is, for moistening and slight drying; placing 8-10 mm thick buckwheat seed layer d onto pan manufactured from titanium alloy coated with semiconductor film of rutile oxide TiO₂, formed in melted salts of KNO₃-NaNO₃.; moistening seeds with lean solution of oxalic acid having pH value of 5.5-6.5 to moisture content W of 18-25%; exposing seed layer to light with intensity E of illumination of 850-1,100 lux within wave length range λ of 400-700 nanometer for time period t of 2-3 min, with following holding of pan containing moistened seeds in darkness for time period t of 3-5 min at temperature T of 300-310 K. Slight drying is performed at temperature T of 363-388 K for time period of 7-10 min until opening of buckwheat seed coat. Method does not use the procedure of prolonged steaming-through of seeds with overheated steam. EFFECT: improved quality and increased yield of groats, reduced production costs due to absence of commonly used seed steaming through procedure. 1 dwg
