FIELD: industrial organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for production of alcohols applicable in perfumery, in production of polymers, dyes, and other organic products. Process is accomplished by electrocatalytic hydrogenation of corresponding ketones and aldehydes in two-cell electrolyzer with ion-exchange diaphragm, cathode, activated skeletal nickel catalyst and platinum or magnetite anode, catholyte being aqueous solution of unoxidizable salt or mixture thereof with alkali metal hydroxide. Concentration of unoxidizable salt is 1 to 15 wt.% and that of alkali metal hydroxide not higher 5 wt.%.
