FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing chlorate of alkali metal, involving: provision for an electrochemical cell, which has an anode and a cathode in separate anode and cathode chambers; bringing the cathode into contact with electrolyte, containing at least one organic mediator and one or more organic or inorganic acids; reacting the organic mediator on the cathode with formation of at least one reduced form of this mediator; reacting said at least one reduced form of mediator with oxygen with formation of hydrogen peroxide; bringing the anode into contact with the anolyte, which contains chloride of alkali metal; reacting chloride on the anode with formation of chlorine, which is hydrolysed; and reacting the hydrolysed chlorine with formation of chlorate.
EFFECT: increased efficiency of producing chlorate of alkali metal.
