METHOD FOR RESECTION ARTHROPLASTY OF HIP JOINT IN DOGS Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

FIELD: veterinary medicine. SUBSTANCE: method deals with resection arthroplasty of hip joint and could be, also, applied at surgical treatment in case of tumors both in caput and cervix of thigh bone, hip joints' dysplasia and coxarthrosis. One should carry out resection arthroplasty of hip joint in dogs due to linear cutaneous incision, cranial access by Archibald et al. , cross-sectional dissection of cranial capsular part of hip joint against the site of fixation to pelvic bones up to the cervix of thigh bone, and due to osteotomy of caput and cervix of thigh bone at the level of a line connecting both the greater and lesser trochanters in thigh bone, then comes layer-by-layer closure of wound. Moreover, linear cutaneous incision at craniolateral access is made at 4-8 cm distance, proximal part of musculus vastus lateralis should be dissected at 2-5 cm distance against underlying thigh bone, then, via caudal capsular part of hip joint one should apply P- shaped sutures free ends of which should be sutured through proximal part dissected from thigh bone, musculus vastus lateralis; by tightening, in turn, P-shaped sutures one should transpose the muscle between pelvic bones and thigh bone. The suggested method shortens the duration of operation, decreases its traumaticity level, prevents sciatic nerve lesion and shortens the terms for restoration of limb's motor function.
