FIELD: equipment for applying insulating lacquer onto movable electrical steel strip. SUBSTANCE: apparatus has rotating roller with working surface provided with plurality of cells, and reservoir incorporating bath containing heated organic or organic/inorganic insulating lacquer, into which roller is partly immersed. Cells are filled with insulating lacquer and excessive lacquer is removed from roller surface. Rotating coating roller having substantially smooth surface free from grooves or other depressions is rotated while its surface is in contact with surface of lacquer carrying roller. As a result, lacquer is transferred from cells of lacquer carrying roller onto surface of coating roller. Sheet to be coated is continuously movable past and in contact with coating roller surface to provide for applying uniform layer of lacquer onto said surface. Sheet is preferably strip of non-oriented electrical steel. Apparatus of such construction allows relatively thin layer of high viscosity organic or organic/inorganic insulating lacquer to be applied at increased speed onto one or both sides of sheet of electrical steel without necessity of adding substances for decreasing coat thickness. EFFECT: increased efficiency and improved quality of coat by providing uniform thickness thereof throughout the entire length of steel sheet. 13 cl, 5 dwg, 1 tbl
