FIELD: varnish-and-paint industry. SUBSTANCE: preparation of synthetic drying oil, which may be used as commercial product or in production of varnish-and-paint materials, is accomplished by thermal polymerization of pyrolysis liquid C8-C9-hydrocarbons in presence of 0.5-2% of initiating agent: sunflower oil cut fraction with boiling point 150 C, molecular weight 350-670, and iodine number 18-44 g iodine/100 g. Agent is added to polymerization product after stripping of hydrocarbons and mixture thus obtained is dissolved in organic solvent and subjected to polymerization at 150-180 X for 1-2 h. Stripped fraction with boiling range 120-299 C and density 850-920 kg/cu. m is also used as organic solvent. EFFECT: increased yield of drying oil and improved its quality. 2 cl, 2 tbl, 3 ex
