FIELD: descent film evaporator; production of high-purity glycols. SUBSTANCE: method provides for complete wetting of entire solid heated surface in form of evaporating tubes by regulating the flow of liquid delivered to evaporator, smooth distribution of liquid at evaporator inlet by means of at least two box-type perforated distributors located above each other and shafted relative to each other and heat insulation of tube sheet (sheets). Descent film evaporator proposed for realization of said method includes heated solid surface in form of evaporating tubes provided with upper and lower tube sheets, unit for heating evaporating tubes and glycol-containing liquid supply unit made in form of at least two perforated box-type distributors located above each other and shifted relative to each other; upper tube sheet and/or lower tube sheet (sheets) are provided with heat insulation. This evaporator may be used as still residue evaporator of rectifying column. Said method makes it possible to avoid catalytic oxidation of glycols due to avoidance of contact of their vapor phase with particles of iron or ferric iron getting for evaporation.
