FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to diesel-electric sets operating to supply external load and consisting of diesel engine and electric generator. Said device is designed to control diesel engine included into set. According to said method of diesel engine control, load of electric generator is measured after starting the engine and beginning of its operation, and engine is regulated by changing delivery of fuel. At partial loads of electric set to idling, included, excess air coefficient is stabilized at constant speed of engine crankshaft by automatically changing position of air throttling member at inlet of diesel engine intake manifold depending on external load of electric set. In case of shut down and to provide protection in emergency, throttling member closes air inlet into diesel engine intake manifold. At starting, load pickup up and maximum load, position of air throttling member is left unchangeable. Stabilization of excess air coefficient is carried out with due account of parameters of ambient air by means of correcting action onto air throttling member. Description of device implementing said method is given in invention. Invention provides optimum excess air coefficient over entire range of working loads, including partial loads down to idling, and maintenance of optimum temperature conditions of diesel engine.
