FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy, winning of aluminum by electrolysis of molten salts. SUBSTANCE: procedure of control over aluminum electrolyzer consists in measurement of voltage drop across electrolyzer resistance which includes electrochemical and ohmic components. Measured value is compared with preset value of voltage drop across electrolyzer. Mismatch is corrected by proper movement of anode. Zone of voltage drop equal to value of possible change of electrochemical component of voltage drop is set relative to preset value of voltage drop. In this zone anode is moved according to mismatch between heating power liberated across electrolyzer and preset value. Period of change of heating power is set equal to period of correction of mismatch without change of thermal state of electrolyzer. EFFECT: increased technical and economic indices of operation of electrolyzer. 1 tbl
