FIELD: methods of enhancing structural strength of metals and alloys, plastic deformation, heat treatment and thermomechanical treatment in particular; mechanical engineering, aircraft manufacture. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes increase of density of dislocations and ordering concentration distribution of dislocations in metal and alloy by electric contact heating of articles to phase pre-transformation temperature and by passing electric pulses through articles made from metals and alloys at energy of (0.8-2.2) J/sq mm per unit of volume of metal and alloy. Then, articles are cooled down. EFFECT: enhanced strength of metals and alloys at enhanced ductility, toughness and resistance to breaking. 3 cl, 1 tbl
