FIELD: methods of multi-stage purification of water to European drinking water standards at taking water from any fresh water source: water-supply system, artesian wells and open water basins. SUBSTANCE: method includes preliminary filtration through multi-layer stainless steel gauze at mesh size from 50 to 80 mcm followed by delivery of water for microfiltration performed by means of cartridge-type microfilter on base of porous polypropylene at size of pores of from 10 to 20 mcm, sorbtion performed with the aid of carbon fibrous material and final microfiltration; solution containing diammine argentate ions ([Ag(NH3)2]+) in the amount corresponding to amount of argentum contained in water of 0.005-0.01 mg/l; said solution is obtained through electrolysis of water in electrolyzer at periodic change of polarity of electrodes containing at least 99 mas.% of argentum followed by introducing gaseous ammonia or ammonia water to obtain mass ratio of Ag+:NH3 equal to 2.8: 3.0. In particular case, it is passed after final microfiltration through reactor including flash xenon lamps of continuous spectrum, mainly forming ultra-violet radiation at wave length of 200 to 400 nm at frequency of 1-1.3 Hz, specific power requirement of 1-3 kJ/cu.m and flux density of 1 to 3 kW/sq.m.
