FIELD: insulation materials. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to building industry and can be used for production of uninflammable heat-insulation structural members based on swelled perlite and alkali components used in construction, metallurgy, and industrial power engineering, where heat insulation is required, in particular heat insulation of a variety of parts and apparatuses operated at high temperature and also where good fire safety is required. Material is prepared from mixture containing, for 100 wt parts of swelled perlite, 3-26 wt parts sodium or potassium hydroxide and 10- 120 wt parts water, which mixture is molded and then dried or thermally treated at 750 C. Molding is accomplished in a way as to compact starting mixture by at least two-fold. Thus obtained material has volume weight between 220 and 450 kG/cu.m, compaction strength between 0.5 and 2.7 MPa, and heat conductivity value no higher than 0.1 W/K*m.
