FIELD: analysis of technical condition of materials based on examination of their strength characteristics by application of mechanical efforts to them. SUBSTANCE: procedure establishing technical state of materials of structural members reaching the limit of their rated working life or approaching it consists in measurement of parameters of microplastic deformations of test specimens produced from material of examined structural member in process of their relaxation tests under stepped loading, in determination of stress corresponding to transition of material from region of safe damages to region of accumulated damages. Microplastic limit σ₀ and depth of relaxation Δσ₀, are taken as parameters of microplastic deformation of specimens, analogous parameters σu0

and Δσu0 for reference specimen produced from examined material in its initial unimpaired condition are established, parameters of tested specimens are compared with proper parameters of reference specimen and comparison results are used to evaluate technical state of material of examined structural member.
