FIELD: determination of ecological state of water courses in industrial-urbanized regions. SUBSTANCE: invention refers to procedures aimed at detection, evaluation, establishment of qualitative composition and level of man-induced pollution of rivers. Geochemical method of detection and evaluation of zones of man-induced pollution of rivers in industrial-urbanized regions includes taking of samples, separation of river suspension from them, determination of its chemical composition with subsequent evaluation of level of accumulation of chemical elements against their background content, establishment of sections of rivers with different level of man-induced pollution. Epiphytic suspension is utilized as river suspension, it is separated from plants-macrophytoes after they are taken out of water and dried. Content of chemical elements is established in samples of epiphytic suspension by standard methods of chemical analysis, coefficients of concentration of chemical elements in epiphytic suspension are calculated in the form of ratio of their content in particular observation point to background content, chemical elements are grouped by values of their coefficients of concentration in epiphytic suspension and geochemical associations which characterize qualitative composition of man-induced pollution are established. Summary index of pollution which presents sum of coefficients of concentration of chemical elements included in geochemical association, less background values, is computed. Level of man- induced pollution is evaluated on basis of values of summary index of pollution as low if values of given index are under 20, as average if values of index vary between 20 and 60, as high if values of index are confined between 60 and 200, as very high if values of index are from 200 to 600 and extremely high with values of index over 600. Migration capability of chemical elements is evaluated by relation of various forms of their presence in epiphytic suspension, extent of zones of man-induced pollution is exposed and rivers are divided into sections possessing different levels and composition of their man-induced pollution. EFFECT: simple and fast method, increased informativity of method. 6 tbl
