POLYMER COMPOSITIONS, THEIR MANUFACTURE AND USE Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

Abstract RU 2205847 C2

FIELD: polymer production. SUBSTANCE: invention allows manufacturing stable fluid composition with relatively high content of active polymer for purpose of coagulation or flocculation, behavior of such composition resembling that of improved coagulant. Invention provides fluid composition containing 20 to 60 wt % of mixture of water-soluble polymer with high intrinsic viscosity and water- soluble cationic polymer coagulant with low intrinsic viscosity, in which (i) high-viscosity component, present in concentration 3 to 40 wt %, is nonionic or cationic polymer of ethylenically-unsaturated water-soluble monomer or mixture of monomers selected from dialkylaminoalkyl (meth)acrylate or -acrylamide in the form of acid addition salt or quaternary salt and (ii) low-viscosity coagulant, present in concentration 3 to 40 wt %, has intrinsic viscosity below 1.5 dl/g as measured in 1M sodium chloride solution buffered to pH 7.5 (25%) and is selected from polyamines, dicyanediamide polymers and polymers containing 70-100 wt % diallyldimethylammonium chloride and up to 30 wt % acrylamide. Under such conditions, composition is actually dispersion of polymer with high intrinsic viscosity in water phase, which is aqueous solution of polymer coagulant with low intrinsic viscosity. Composition further contains 0.01 to 1 wt part of water-soluble polyhydroxyl compound per 1 wt part polymer coagulant and shows intrinsic viscosity at least 2 dl/g as measured in 1M sodium chloride solution buffered to pH 7.5 (25%) and Brookfield viscosity below 30000 cps. Preparation of such composition is also provided. EFFECT: improved coagulation ability. 13 cl, 1 tbl
